Portsmouth North’s newly elected MP Amanda Martin sets out how Labour’s King’s speech will deliver for local families and unlock growth for the country with a bold, ambitious, packed programme which will improve living standards for Portsmouth people.
Labour’s legislative agenda will drive forward delivery of the Government’s first steps and missions to rebuild Britain. Earlier this week The King’s Speech unveiled over 35 bills and draft bills which will include new laws to deliver on the party’s manifesto commitments.
These will focus on growing the economy through better transport, more jobs and turbocharging building of houses and infrastructure – helping to make every part of the country better off.
Portsmouth North MP Amanda Martin said:
“At the election, we set out our plan for change in Portsmouth and our country. The King’s Speech shows we are wasting no time in delivering that change.
Getting to work to transform our city and country has already started and we recognise the urgency needed to fix our NHS, break down barriers for opportunity and getting our country building again”.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer said:
“Now is the time to take the brakes off Britain. For too long people have been held back, their paths determined by where they came from – not their talents and hard work.
“I am determined to create wealth for people up and down the country. It is the only way our country can progress, and my government is focussed on supporting that aspiration.
“Today’s new laws will take back control and lay the foundations of real change that this country is crying out for, creating wealth in every community and making people better off – supporting their ambitions, hopes and dreams.”
