Portsmouth MP Amanda Martin Calls on People To ‘Love Where They Live’ As She Encourage Community To Join Mass Litter Clean-Up in Pompey

Amanda Martin MP is appealing to residents and businesses to pledge to pick at least one bag of litter in Portsmouth for Keep Britain Tidy’s 10th Great British Spring Clean.

Ms Martin has today voiced support and praise for constituents pledging to pick litter from Portsmouth streets and public spaces during Britain’s favourite environmental charity’s annual campaign.

Keep Britain Tidy’s 10th Great British Spring Clean, which runs from 21 March to 6 April this year, brings together individuals, community organisations, schools, businesses and councils in Portsmouth to make a difference to the environment on our doorstep.

Amanda Martin MP said:

“I’m delighted to lend my support to back the charity’s plea to the public to pledge on the its website to pick one bag or more of litter from streets, parks, beauty spots and beaches in order to protect our vibrant communities and precious wildlife habitats.”

She added:

“This comes on the back of a survey currently bring run by the local Labour team on the state of our streets. So far over 70% of people who’ve completed the survey don’t think the council is doing a good job cleaning up Portsmouth.”

The charity reports that last year: 97% of participants agreed that they felt they had made a difference to their local area.

84% of people who took part in the Great British Spring Clean agreed that they felt more pride for their local area
