Amanda Martin MP has welcomed the Chancellor’s recommitment to building a renewed economy for a renewed Britain, focusing on supporting working families and investing in public services nationwide.

After years of decline that left communities poorer and public services underfunded, Labour’s plan is anchored on stability and economic reform. This will unlock the potential of businesses and workers while driving investment in every part of Britain, including Portsmouth.

A key part of this mission is ending long-term youth unemployment. Labour will offer guaranteed paid work to every young person out of education or work for 18 months, ensuring no generation is left behind. The ambitious Youth Experience Scheme will also provide opportunities for young Brits to travel, work, and learn across the EU.

Labour is committed to giving every child the best start in life by delivering a library in every primary school, helping children in Portsmouth and beyond access vital learning resources.

To support British industry, Labour will prioritise British manufacturing in procurement, backing Portsmouth’s shipbuilding and steel sectors. This will create new jobs and apprenticeships, helping strengthen local economies.

Additionally, Labour is cracking down on Covid fraud with a new task force dedicated to recovering public funds misused during the pandemic, ensuring taxpayers’ money is protected.

Labour is building a stronger, fairer Britain on secure economic foundations — and Portsmouth will benefit from this renewed commitment to investment, jobs, and opportunity.
