Amanda’s Monthly Update – April 2025

I hope you’re enjoying the sunny weather!

I wanted to give you a little update on the work I’ve been doing this month and invite you to join me and the team this May.

It’s been another busy month as our MP. I’ve met lots of small businesses including the team at Hilsea Wake Park about ongoing sewage issues, popped in to say hello to the new florist ‘Lavender Moon’ on London Road and I also met with the brilliant team Parade Community Pre-School to hear about the work they are doing in community particularly around SEND provision.

I was really pleased to see the first breakfast club launch, last Monday, at Court Lane Junior School in Cosham. This week I popped by to have breakfast with some of the pupils. It was so heart-warming to hear why they love coming to have breakfast and play with their friends ahead of the school day.

Earlier this month, I met with Marine Griffin over on Paulsgrove Lake, the UKs only hovercraft manufacturer right here in Portsmouth North, they are doing some fantastic innovative work. It was good to spend some time touring the site, meeting apprentices and hearing about how I can support with future plans.

I also held a packed Coffee Morning in Stamshaw and an even busier ‘Pint with your MP’ in Drayton, if you would like to volunteer to help make tea and coffee or take notes at these events please do get in touch.

In parliament, I’ve continued to speak up for Portsmouth and have now spoken up over 101 times in the chamber. I was delighted to be the final speaker in the ‘Football Governance Bill’ and to get the opportunity to tell our clubs story ahead of this landmark bill. I’ve also been appointed a member of the Planning and Infrastructure Bill, this is one of the single biggest (and most important) pieces of government legalisation as part of our plan for change. With a housing crisis in our city caused by the council not building enough homes for local people, to derelict sites left for years, to HMO’s popping up everywhere, I’m delighted to be able to scrutinise this bill line by line.

As we head towards May, we have lots to look forward to. I’m off to spend some time with our serving Navy Personal, we celebrate VE day and at the end of the month Stephen Morgan MP and I are hosting a joint Portsmouth Housing Fayre.

I look forward to catching up soon. Below is a bit more about what the government and I have been up to this month and how you can help or join me in May.

As ever if there is anything I can help with, please do get in touch.

Best wishes,

Amanda Martin MP
