Amanda Martin MP has welcomed the publication of the Government’s new Fraud Strategy, aimed at cracking down on scams and protecting people and businesses from the fastest-growing type of crime in the UK.
Fraud is now the most commonly experienced crime in the country, affecting millions of people every year and costing the economy billions of pounds. The Government’s new strategy will invest over £250 million between 2026 and 2029 to strengthen prevention, support victims and bring more criminals to justice.
The strategy, led by Lord Hanson, Minister of State at the Home Office, is built around three key pillars: Disrupt, Safeguard and Respond.
Key measures include the creation of a new Online Crime Centre bringing together government, law enforcement and industry to target fraudsters, expanding the national Stop! Think Fraud campaign to help people identify scams, and launching a new Report Fraud service to make it easier for victims to report incidents and access support.
The Government will also introduce a Fraud Victims’ Charter, ensuring consistent support for victims across the country and strengthening the tools available to law enforcement to investigate and prosecute fraud.
Amanda Martin MP said: “Fraud is a devastating crime that can ruin lives, damage businesses and undermine trust in our economy. Too many people have experienced the distress of being targeted by scams.
I welcome the Government’s new Fraud Strategy, which takes a coordinated approach to disrupting criminals, protecting the public and ensuring victims receive the support they need.
By bringing together government, law enforcement, technology companies and financial institutions, we can make it far harder for fraudsters to operate and send a clear message that this crime will not be tolerated.”
The strategy also strengthens collaboration with banks, telecom companies and technology firms to prevent fraud before it reaches victims, while expanding international cooperation to tackle criminal networks operating overseas.
Amanda Martin MP added: “Fraudsters often exploit technology and operate across borders, so tackling this crime requires strong partnerships and modern tools. This strategy is an important step towards making the UK a safer place to live, work and do business.”
Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and report suspected fraud through the Government’s new reporting services.
