Amanda Martin MP is hosting a free Utility and Cost of Living Event in North End, Portsmouth, to help local residents access practical support and advice during the winter months.

Taking place on Friday 23 January 2026, from 11am to 1:30pm, the event will bring together residents with trusted advice providers, utility companies and local organisations to help people better understand their bills, manage rising costs and access the support they may be entitled to.

Attendees will be able to speak directly, on a one-to-one basis, with representatives from organisations including Octopus Energy, E.ON, Advice Portsmouth, Portsmouth Water, Southern Water and local financial services providers. Support will cover a range of issues such as managing energy and water bills, debt advice, financial wellbeing and cost of living support schemes.

Amanda Martin MP for Portsmouth North said:

“Too many people are worried about their bills and unsure where to turn for help. The government has committed to taking £150 off energy bills, has stabilised the economy to help bring mortgage costs down by almost £1,400 since the election, and has abolished the Two Child Limit, lifting more than 2,000 children out of poverty in Portsmouth North.

But I know there is still more to do, which is why I am hosting this event. It is about making support accessible, friendly and practical, bringing trusted organisations together in one place so residents can get clear advice and feel more confident about their finances. It’s also an opportunity for me to hear directly from you about what more we can do to support with the cost of living.”

Nicky Chitty, Southern Water’s affordability and vulnerability lead, said:

“We are delighted to be attending Amanda Martin MP’s Utility and Cost of Living event so that we can work to see that no households in Portsmouth North miss out on the support they may be entitled to. Customers who are eligible to join our Essentials tariff will automatically receive a minimum discount of 45% off their bills. We appreciate this opportunity as we seek to support those in need within our communities.”

Octopus Energy’s Graeme, Senior Credit Specialist and Emma, Support Social Worker said:

“At Octopus, we believe no one should have to worry about staying warm. Our £40m Octo Assist fund offers a range of support schemes designed to help those most in need. Whether you need practical advice from our Energy Specialists on energy saving advice around the home, or a deeper conversation with one of our qualified social workers about your overall wellbeing, we are here to ensure you get the support you deserve”

Teddy at Income Max said:

“IncomeMax will be there to offer free, practical advice to residents on benefits they may be entitled to, including disability benefits and local council schemes. We’ll also be sharing support around water and energy trust funds, priority services, and ways to reduce energy costs. Where needed, we can assist with applications or provide the information required to apply”.

The event follows Amanda Martin MP’s regular community advice sessions, which are held across Portsmouth North. These coffee mornings are safe spaces for residents to come along and get help and advice in welcoming and accessible local venues. This session will have a particular focus on utility bills and the wider cost of living, offering residents the chance to raise concerns, ask questions and connect with services that can help.

Booking is essential, as places are limited. Residents can register in the following ways:

Residents are encouraged to attend and to invite friends or neighbours who may also benefit from the support available.
