Portsmouth North MP Amanda Martin has launched an exciting new Political Summer School programme for young people, giving aspiring future leaders a unique opportunity to gain first-hand experience of politics, campaigning and public service.
The programme will take place this summer and aims to provide young people with practical insight into how politics works both locally and nationally, including sessions with professionals working across politics, communications and community engagement.
Speaking about the initiative, Amanda Martin MP said: “I regularly hear from young people who are interested in politics, campaigning and public service and want to better understand how they can get involved and make a difference in their communities.
“Unfortunately, it is not always possible to accommodate everyone seeking experience within a busy parliamentary office, so I wanted to create an opportunity that opens the door to more young people across Portsmouth.
“This Summer School will give participants a chance to see politics in action, build confidence, develop valuable skills and meet people working across Parliament, local government and campaigning.”
Participants will take part in workshops and discussions covering areas including:
- Politics and Parliament
- Community campaigning
- Media and communications
- Public speaking and leadership
- Policy and decision-making
- Community engagement and activism
Highlights of the programme will getting to meet political staff, journalists and officials from across local and national govenment.
The programme is open to young people aged 16-21 from Portsmouth. Applicants must be available for the full duration of the Summer School.
Amanda Martin MP added: “I want this programme to encourage the next generation of leaders, campaigners and community voices. Politics should feel accessible to everyone, regardless of background, and I hope this initiative helps inspire more young people to get involved.”
