Amanda Martin MP has praised schools in Portsmouth North for their success in achieving the School Games Mark Gold Award during the 2024/25 academic year.

The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme, launched in 2012 and facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust, to reward schools for their commitment to developing competition across their school and into the community.

In Portsmouth North, Admiral Lord Nelson, Beacon View and Trafalgar schools received the School Games Platinum Mark Award, with all of them receiving the Gold level.

Schools have been recognised for their success in many areas, including supporting participation in local inter-school competitions and creating active plans for the ongoing improvement of PE and school sport.

Commenting on the news, Amanda Martin MP said: “I’m delighted schools in Portsmouth North have been recognised for their commitment to PE and school sport. It’s more important than ever that we support children and young people to be physically active, and activity during and around the school day can help every child unlock the benefits, including for happiness, health and access to skills.

“Local schools that have been celebrated through the School Games Mark should be proud of their success. As well as congratulating the children and young people involved, I also want to pay tribute to the teachers, school leaders, volunteers and officials whose involvement is helping create vital opportunities and making sure no one misses out.”
